Firepad Releases Handheld Video
Baby Monitor Software
Firepad has released FireProducer Desktop Edition, an inexpensive home version of its
webcam-to-Palm video server software. Now consumers can monitor their home or child from
anywhere in the world on a Palm handheld organizer. Priced at $49.95, the application
allows users to send live video from any 16-bit USB webcam to any wireless Palm-compatible
handheld.
(PRWEB) February 1 2004--Firepad's
FireProducer video server software, long available to enterprise buyers, is now offered in
a less expensive home version. The software sends live video from any 16-bit USB PC webcam
to any wireless Palm-compatible handheld. Video is received on the PDA by Firepad's
popular Picture Viewer software.
"FireProducer was developed
initially as a video component within Firepad's suite of handheld, desktop and server
software for business," said founder and CEO Bill Mitchell. "The primary
application was mobile surveillance by security staff carrying wireless PDAs.
"Over time, we received so many
inquiries from interested families and homeowners that it made sense to create a consumer
version. With FireProducer Desktop Edition, anyone can send video from a cheap PC webcam
to any Palm-compatible smartphone, including Treo, Samsung and Kyocera models.
"Smartphone compatibility was the
keystone of this initiative. Now that Firepad software runs on all Palm-powered
smartphones, we have a level of flexibility that makes us useful in a wide variety of
applications," said Mitchell. "Naturally, we still offer the full version for
our business customers, but by extending the product line in this way, we can reach a new
audience with a demonstrated interest in the product."
